Message from Bradenham Bowls Club

As the Bowls season for 2024 has now concluded, we look back on what was a busy season for the club, we have had a fair share of injuries, sickness and rain affected games which played havoc with team selection, rescheduling games, credit must go to the League Captains and those who played resulting in a successful end to the season as the final league position below show.

As reported last month we finished as follows:

  • Age Concern League 2nd
  • Dereham League: 3rd
  • Elmham League: League Champions
  • Mid Norfolk League 2nd

Visi our website: http://www.bradenhambowlsclub.co.uk for mor detailed information.

The Finals Day on Sunday 1st September began with the Spider, where a Cot (Jack Ball) is placed in the middle of the green and each club member has one wood and with one foot on the green the other in the ditch, bowls their wood all at the same time. The winner is the owner of the wood nearest to the Cot who wins a cash prize which went this year to Alan Everest. This was followed with a Mini roll up of 3 games of 4 ends in total where the winner was Roly Findlay. A well-earned feast of refreshments in the Pavilion was had along with “Guess the number of Buttons in the Jar,” kindly provided by Pauline Middleton with winning prize going to Barbara Simson. Other presentations were made for the Roy MacDonald-Jackson Shield going to Phil Hayward and the long-awaited draw of the 50/50 board.

On Sunday 15th September we had our Tidy up day prior to putting the green to bed, my thanks go to those ladies and gents who attended and in sorting out the Pavilion, the Bowls shed, the hedges, ditches and outside areas, to Simon Hillier in disposing of a very large bucket of waste for burning and to Katy Hillier for well earned refreshments in the form of Sausages & Bacon in a Bun followed Tea & Cake, all very grateful and rewarding.

Our attention now turns to the forthcoming Annual General Meeting which will be held in the Pavilion on Thursday 3rd October 7.00 for 7.30pm. where a review of the year will be held along with the election and appointment of numerous positions of office.

Social functions will be held during the winter months to maintain contact with the members during the closed season plus our extremely popular Christmas Bingo being held in the Village Hall on Friday 6th December 7.00 for 7.30pm, everyone is welcome as this is a well-attended social event.

A massive thanks must go to the team captains, committee members for all their hard work and to the players for another successful season, plus those involved in maintaining the Green.
